WUNAAMIN CONSERVATION PARK
WUNAAMIN CONSERVATION PARK CONTAINS ISOLATED PATCHES OF REMNANT RAINFOREST, WITH RIDGES RISING UP TO 300 METERS ABOVE THE SURROUNDING PLAINS.
Aquatic plants fill pools in creeks and rivers, providing cool relief from the starkness of the harsh escarpment. Head out on remote tracks and you’ll discover the region is sprinkled with waterholes, idyllic fishing spots and secluded gorges.
BARKER POOL
South of the homestead is Barker Pool, perfect for those looking for a lengthy swim. Barker Pool is a long and deep section of the Barker River
The banks of Barker River also provide the perfect spot for a picnic or wildlife spotting, if swimming isn’t for you.
MATTHEW GORGE
Matthew Gorge (previously known as Dolerite Gorge) is a beautiful grade 4 hike. There are plenty of pools to cool off in, however, the most magnificent is the main swimming hole, an hour from the main car park. This Gorge also has a delightful creek, meandering through the black rocks and cliffs of the gorge, with dozens of shady, small pools, rapids and waterfalls.
ANNIE’S CREEK (MAYAL MINDI)
A pleasant picnic spot with a short hike amongst nature include an easy creek crossing where you can view a boab tree entwined with a strangler fig. Culturally significant as Aboriginals would congregate here for celebrations.
BELL GORGE (DALMANYI)
Located within the Wunaamin-Miliwundi Ranges (formally The King Leopold Ranges) is the popular Bell Gorge, a beautiful, cascading waterfall. The falls are easily accessible from the car park, just a short 1km walk down a marked trail.
You’ll be snapping photo after photo of the picture-perfect infinity pool. Have your bathers ready for a refreshing dip in the upper pool where you can swim right up to the edge of the water spilling over the rocks. The lower pool is great for those wanting to swim beneath the falls. Head down the rocky path to the left to access the lower part of the waterfall.
LOLA’S HIDEOUT
On the outskirts of the Wunaamin Miliwundi Ranges, discover a hidden sanctuary concealed within a secluded inlet along the Charnley River. This hidden gem remains uncharted on any map and is only accessible exclusively by helicopter from Mount Hart. The destination features a tranquil waterfall that gracefully pours into an immaculate pool, enveloped by towering red cliffs and vibrant foliage. The perfect location for a brief nature walk and a romantic picnic retreat.
TWIN FLAME FALLS
Nestled within the Wunaamin Miliwundi Ranges in the West Kimberley region, the magnificent waterfall, Twin Flame Falls, is a fusion of two twin falls, merging into a singular towering cascade that plummets 300 feet.
Positioned against the backdrop of the West Kimberley, Twin Flame Falls offers more than just a spectacular water display – it grants breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding region.
NALA’S SECRET
Located on the outskirts of the Wunaamin Miliwundi Ranges, this grand cascading waterfall leads to a crystal-clear pool inviting adventurous travellers for a refreshing swim. Nestled along the waterfall's edges are overhanging rock enclosures deeply intertwined with the roots from ancient trees. This secluded paradise is reachable exclusively via helicopter, making it an idyllic spot to enjoy a romantic swim and waterfall bath, followed by a private picnic retreat.
